This educational video is part of the 5th Annual UCSF/IGOT Pediatric Limb Differences Webinar, titled Osteomyelitis in Children and Young Adults: A Global Perspective. Co-hosted by the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Center and the Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology (IGOT), this global academic event originally took place on Saturday, June 13, 2026. About Session 3: Management of Sequelae Following Osteomyelitis
This session addresses the complex reconstructive challenges, bone defects, and limb deformities that persist after acute and chronic musculoskeletal infections. The program begins with an expert introductory lecture by Dr. Sandeep Patwardhan examining gap non-unions. Esteemed global faculty then share diverse case presentations illustrating femoral reconstructions, management of post-sepsis disappearing lateral femoral condyles, metaphyseal and diaphyseal bone defects, growth arrests, and modified Huntington’s procedures. Additional presentations demonstrate the management of infected bone and soft tissue gaps, knee flexion deformity corrections, hybrid JESS fixation for ankle deformities, and patient-centered functional recovery. The session concludes with a collaborative panel discussion.
